Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) successfully conducted its 14th Examinations series for 23,560 students registered from 173 examination centres across the country. The examinations started on Monday 21st May 2018 to 15th June 2018. The briefing of candidates for phase one Technical examinations was done in the whole country on Friday 18th May 2018.

The Board registered an increase in the number of candidates from 15,651 candidates in May/June 2017 examination series to 23,560 candidates of May/June 2018 examination series representing a 50.5% increase.  The Board has continued to register bigger enrolment of candidates in Vocational training institutions and other training institutions accredited all over the country. This is a good indicator that our clients have embraced the choice to embrace the skilling Uganda agenda for self-employment and self-reliance. During these examinations series, The Board registered an increase in the number of examinations centres that presented candidates for examinations from 140 in 2017 to 173 in 2018 representing 23.5% increase. We attribute this significant increase in the number of candidates and examination centres to the recent policy guidelines on assessment and accreditation of Post O’level and A’ level programmes issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports in November 2017.

The Board registered candidates for Business Diploma and Certificate programmes, Technical National Diploma and Higher Diploma programmes and other specialized Academic programmes including Fisheries, Meteorology, Agriculture, Wild life and Lands and Survey.

The May/June 2018 examinations series was conducted in three phases. The first phase of examinations included; Technical Diploma and Higher Diploma programme, phase two examinations included Agriculture, Cooperatives and Wildlife programmes. Phase three examinations included programmes in business, Information and Communication Technology and humanities which commenced on 1st June 2018 and ended on 15th June2018.

The Examinations conducted had both theory and practical papers as the Board conducts Competence Based Examinations that follow Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework. This mode of assessment ensures that UBTEB students graduate with requisite hands on skills that meet the demands of the Labour market.
