UBTEB ISSUES ROAD MAP FOR THE MAY/JUNE 2020 EXAMINATIONS’ SERIES

This press the conference has been sanctioned in line with the Statutory Instrument 2009, No.9, Uganda Business and Technical examinations Board (UBTEB) and it's mandated to streamline, regulate, coordinate and conduct credible national examinations and award Certificates and Diplomas in the Business, Technical, Vocational and specialized education and training in Uganda.

In pursuit of the above mandate, the Board works in collaboration with the Heads of Training Institutions and Ministry of Education & Sports to issue the registration circulars for the respective examinations series in May/June and November/December in accordance with the stipulated curricula of each academic programmes. Accordingly, the circular stipulates the registration dates, guidelines and registration fees to be paid by each candidate in each category of programmes.

Following the closure of the Education and training institutions in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Board put on halt the registration of candidates for the May/June 2020 examinations. The Board is pleased to inform the public that the registration of candidates for May/June 2020 has resumed for only finalists in accordance with the guidance by the President of the Republic of Uganda in his address on 20th September 2020 and the calendar issued by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports on 23rd September 2020.

Specifically, the Board informs the public that the normal registration for the May/June Examination series which had been opened before the Lockdown shall resume on Monday 19th October 2020 and end on Friday 30th October 2020. Late registration shall start on Monday 2nd November 2020 and end on Friday 6th November 2020. The first phase of the deferred May/June 2020 examinations shall start on Monday 23rd November 2020 for Technical Diploma awarding Institutions while the second phase shall start on Monday 30th November 2020 for Colleges of Commerce/Business and Departmental institutions. The second phase will include all second years Semester II for the August intake and all second years Semester one for the March intake. The Board expects to conduct examinations for a total of over 40,000 candidates at 203 UBTEB accredited Examination centres across the country.

Accordingly, The board shall register candidates for the deferred Nov/Dec 2020 examinations series starting on Monday 2nd of November 2020 to Friday 11th December 2020.  All candidates’ registration shall be done online using the access portal provided by the Board. Candidates of the deferred Nov/Dec 2020 examinations shall sit in March 2021. The Heads of Training Institutions are further advised to make sure the correct fees charged by UBTEB are displayed on their Notice Boards for candidates and parents to access the right amount in each category of the programme of study.

The Board continues to appeal to all Heads of training institutions to observe the curriculum guidelines on real-life projects and Continuous Assessment processes as stipulated in the UBTEB Regulations.

The Institutions are kindly requested to continue observing the guidelines for the prevention and management of COVID-19 issued to them by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The Board wishes all heads of training institutions, candidates and parents a successful registration period.
