UBTEB Makes 10 Years, To Get New Assessment Center

Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) broke ground for a new assessment centre on Kyambogo hill

The event, was the highlight of months' activities, celebrating 10 years of UBTEB in Uganda.

The ground Breaking ceremony was graced by Rt Hon Justine Lumumba,  Minister in Charge of General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister, who represented H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. 

A NEW HOME: - a foundation stone was laid for a UGX. 30 billion GoU-funded home for ⁦UBTEB.

The facility upon completion will save UBTEB UGX. 600 million in rent annually.

In a speech read for him by the Rt. Hon Justine Lumumba, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commended the leadership and staff of UBTEB, and applauded them for a job well done in skilling Ugandans.

"This is a generation and Era of skills to survive. I urge Ugandans to acquire productive skills through the TVET program, irrespective of their education background." it read.

H.E said that quality skills  should be achieved through rigorous trainings for staff and students in a bid to address the skills gap in Uganda. 

He added that TVET is the solution to youth unemployment in Uganda and must therefore be spread in all corners of Uganda.

"Unemployment in Uganda can be resolved by promoting skills based courses. The Government has opened up a number of skilling centers across the country. We believe that these, churning out skilled Ugandans will create value addition in our agriculture sector, oil and gas, among other sectors. Innovations should also be improved into quality and efficient products for the International Market." he guided 

He gave a preamble of Uganda's educational sector and progress made so far since the colonial days.

In a speech read for her, Minister of Education and Sports and first Lady, Janet. Kataha Museveni expressed her joy towards the 10 year  celebrations of Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB). 

"When a child is born, the community celebrates the birth of a child. In the same way, when Government established UBTEB through the BTVET Act 2008, it marked the fresh start of the paradigm shift in providing Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) that is fit for the 21st century labor demands. This occasion marks another significant milestone in our journey of realizing competitive labour force for social-economic development." she said  

In her own Capacity, Rt. Hon Justine Lumumba underscored the importance of TVET programs towards attainment of wealth creation for all. She advocated for synergies between the various Government Agencies and UBTEB, create opportunities for TVET graduates to work in industrial parks, subsidize fees, teaching in local languages, and pledged to push for more funding for the sector 

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports said that the Ministry is ready to absorb every Ugandan that is interested in having a lifetime skill. "We are in final stages of developing the National TVET Qualifications Framework. This will be a big step forward in harmonizing and describing the various occupational files and progression. "This is the best practice in having an affective TVET system that delivers results." she said

According to UBTEB Executive Secretary CPA Onesmus Oyesigye, UBTEB has moved from being a local assessment institution to a world class. As a  Matter of fact,  a delegation from Malawi will be coming in to Benchmark on how the board does it's works. "In the last 10 years, UBTEB has grown from a few hundred graduates to currently 108,400 under 592 centres, In addition, UBTEB has registered major milestones in TVET Assessment such as increment in enrollment for TVET Assessment from 9198 candidates in 2011 to 79,901 into 2021" he said.
