Enhancing Workplace Safety: UBTEB Staff Training on Risk Preparedness

Posted on: September 27, 2024

In accordance with the UBTEB’s Human Resource Manual, 2019 No. 7.5 (f) and ISO Standards (QMS 9001:2015), the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) conducted an essential fire safety training session for its staff members on Tuesday 24th September 2024 at 2:00 PM, aimed at equipping staff with crucial knowledge and skills for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment and emergency response readiness at the Secretariat.

Recognizing that workplace emergencies can occur unexpectedly, the training, hosted by Madam Annitah Kalongo, gathered a diverse group of staff members who engaged in a comprehensive program designed to enhance their understanding of fire safety and the proper use of fire extinguishers.

Mr. Alex Arinaitwe, a seasoned business manager from Elide Fire Services, led the training. He brought extensive experience from his tenure with UBTEB since 2015 and began the session by engaging participants with fundamental questions about fire and ended by awarding the team a certificate after completing the training successfully. Participants learned that fire requires three elements: air (oxygen), fuel, and a source of heat. “Understanding these elements is critical in both preventing and extinguishing fires’ he emphasized.

The training session featured a comprehensive curriculum that included theoretical knowledge and practical exercises. Participants learned about fire, the classifications, firefighting equipment, proper use of fire extinguishers and their maintenance, evacuation procedures, and the fire action plan.
Interactive simulations allowed staff members to practice their responses to a mock fire scenario, reinforcing their understanding of emergency protocols. This hands-on approach not only enhanced their confidence but also emphasized the significance of teamwork during crises.

The recent fire safety training at UBTEB was an informative and engaging session that equipped staff with essential knowledge about fire prevention, classification, and response. By equipping staff members with the necessary skills to handle potential risks, and a culture of safety and preparedness, UBTEB is not only complying with safety regulations but also ensuring a safer working environment for all employees. As we continue to navigate various challenges, the commitment to safety remains a top priority, ensuring that everyone is ready to respond effectively in times of crisis.
