UBTEB Announces Phasing Out the Conduct of Examinations for the Advanced Craft Certificate Program by 2024

The Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) has has resolved to phase out the conduct of examinations for all candidates intending to undertake the Advanced Craft Certificate by the end of the year 2024. This is done in accordance with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reforms and in reference to the streamlined curricula for Technical and Vocational Training Certificate programs. “The Board has offered to conduct the last examinations in the upcoming November/December 2024 for all students pursuing Advanced Craft Certificate programmes” Executive Secretary, UBTEB Oyesigye stated in a communication to all Heads of Centres.

He also explained that the conduct of Advanced Craft Certificate programmes is intended for all those who previously did Technical and Vocational Certificate programs which required them to first enroll for the respective Advanced Craft programs before joining the relevant diploma programme. Oyesigye explained that some of the Advanced Craft Technical programs that the Board will phase out their assessment include; Motor vehicle Technicians course Part II, Carpentry and Joinery Craft Part II, Block Laying and Concrete Practice Part II, Plumbing in East African Countries Craft Part II among others. These programmes were phased out with the roll out of new curricular in 2016 for all National Certificate for Technical and Vocational programs.

Oyesigye called upon all Heads of Examinations Centres to ensure candidates register for the November/December 2024 series is ongoing and will close on Friday 1St November, 2024. “We understand that this change may impact both current and prospective students. As such, we ask for your collaboration in communicating this update to your staff and students.” He stated.
